Maysam and Ali Al-Kheralla and their beautiful new addition to the family, baby Rami, are our September promotion winners.
Maysam and Ali, from North Shore, are the proud parents of four year old Fahd and new baby, Rami. When they were expecting Rami they entered CordBank’s competition to be in the draw to win the full cost of registration, processing and storage (valued at $5,000). The competition was drawn at the end of October and Maysam and Ali were thrilled to hear they had won.
They first heard about cord blood banking from Rami’s grandparents who live in the UK. Both grandparents are doctors and very up to date with cord blood developments in the medical field. They also offered to cover the fees as they considered it the ultimate gift that they could give to their new grandchild.
Maysam and Ali were delighted to find that the service to collect and store cord blood was available in New Zealand and decided to apply. “Like all parents we want to try to secure our kids’ future in all aspects especially their health. The importance of stem cells is increasing and the rapid medical developments in this sector are very promising,” said Ali.
“By the time we sent in the completed application, my wife was 37-38 weeks pregnant and we thought it might be too late to get everything sorted before the big day, but we were pleasantly surprised by the great service as we received the kit only 2 days after we signed up.”
“We were very relieved to know that both the doctor and midwife were familiar with the collection procedure and fully trained which made it a lot easier for us. The actual collection was very fast and organised. We called the courier immediately after the delivery and they came and collected the cells straight away. We then received a confirmation call to say the cells had been received and were being successfully processed.
